Nissan Formula E Team again on the podium in Mexico City

Rowland clinches third, while Nato claims top-10 finish

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Nissan Formula E Team's Oliver Rowland put in a fantastic drive at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, recovering strongly from a mid-race setback to clinch third in Round 2 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Meanwhile, teammate Norman Nato fought hard in a dramatic midfield battle, finishing 10th and scoring a point for the team.

Reigning champion Rowland progressed to the Duels after a positive showing in qualifying, lining up eighth on the grid. Taking his first Attack Mode at the halfway mark the Brit was unfortunate to be shuffled off the road, dropping multiple positions. Seconds later, a Full Course Yellow was called, meaning he lost out on a minute of extra power. When the race resumed, he made some fantastic moves to re-enter the battle for the podium. Despite running out of Attack Mode before those around him, he was able to make one final daring overtake to finish third after a tense and tight final lap.

Teammate Nato missed out on the Duels by a narrow margin, starting the race 12th. He executed a positive strategy, saving energy in the first part of the race to allow him to push later on. The Frenchman recovered well from contact that cost him multiple positions and drove efficiently to earn 10th at the checkered flag.

To mark visiting one of Nissan's major markets, both cars sported a special livery which featured a traditional Mexican take on the squad's cherry blossom pattern. Created by Mexican artist César Menchaca, the design celebrated Mexican identity, while also blending cultural values of both Mexico and Japan, such as respect, honesty and hard work.

Finishing on the podium in the first two races of Season 12 marks a strong start to Rowland's title defense, currently third in the Drivers' Championship. Nissan Formula E Team is also third in the Teams' Standings, while Nissan sits in the same position in the Manufacturers' Championship.

Formula E returns to action on 31 January when the series travels to Miami, USA for a first race around the Miami International Autodrome.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: "We're very proud to have scored a positive result here. It's always a great experience to be in Mexico, which is like our second home, and we love the opportunity to catch up with our colleagues, dealers, media, and fans every year. We've had a very intense and rewarding week, and it's great to end it on the podium. Two podiums in two races marks a strong start to the season, so far; however, the field is really tight there is still room for improvement. We're delighted with Oli's podium and we know that Norman could have scored more points too without a bit of bad luck. As a team we feel we have better pace than last year, so we will keep pushing to continue improving and maintain this momentum until the end in the fight for all the titles."

Oliver Rowland, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: "I'm happy with today's result and to be back on the podium in Mexico City. It wasn't a straightforward day, the field was very closely-matched in both qualifying and the race. I was one of the first to take Attack Mode, and lost positions after being forced on the grass just before the Full Course Yellow. We were really efficient, which allowed me to keep energy in reserve and attack at the end to move back up the order. We've got a great foundation to build on for the season and we'll keep pushing in the right direction."

Norman Nato, driver, Nissan Formula E Team: "Qualifying was really tight - we narrowly missed the Duels, which was frustrating as a small amount of time can be the difference between several positions. The race was quite open, we did well at the start but some contact put us back. We still managed to finish in the points but it could have been more, which is encouraging for future races. The strategy was strong, saving energy at the start of the race to push at the end. We've proven again that we have the pace, so we need to keep working hard for Miami."
